Document Delivery

Cayan Library is now offering a new service for our distance learning students. A student who lives more than 50 miles from SUNYIT and is enrolled in a SUNYIT online course is eligible to use the new service. Graduate students working on a final thesis and who are not attending classes on campus are also eligible for services.

We offer both Interlibrary Loan for items that the Cayan Library does not own and a Document Delivery Service for items that we own. At present, we will provide articles but not books.

For more information, please visit the Interlibrary Loan link on the Cayan Library web page or contact Jacquelyn Coughlan, Librarian, at jackie@sunyit.edu or (315)792-7250.

Tutorial Available

A new feature on the library web page is a link to tutorials. Listed there you will find the pilot tutorial concerning e-journals. This brief video will take you through the process of locating the e-journals to which the Cayan Library subscribes. Take a look.

We hope to provide more tutorials that will help both on-campus and online learners learn of library services or walk them through the steps needed to help them find the information they seek. Stay tuned.

Library Switches from SFX to Serials Solutions

Today, we are switching from SFX -- a little image that appears inside our library databases that connects users from citation-only results to full-text articles -- to another similar program, called Serials Solutions.

You may experience weird results but hopefully only today during the transition.

Serials Solutions has a different interface, etc., but it has all the functionality and abilities of SFX.

Please contact a librarian if you have any questions: (315) 792-7251.

Room Events Schedule

The Cayan Library is now publishing the Room Events Schedule in the hours box on the library webpage. When users click on the link, they can see the event, room location, and hours. Connie Castellano (792-7819) is the person to contact to request the Mele or Conference Rooms. Jackie Coughlan (792-7250) will continue to schedule library instruction classes that are held in the Lanigan Room/Computer Lab. That schedule can be seen in the Lab Hours link on the library webpage.

Library Lab Hours Now Online

The schedule when the library lab is closed is now online. The lab is normally open the same hours as the library, except when the room hosts an event.

Please click here to see a schedule of when the lab is closed. You can click on an instructor's name to see the event's end time, that is, when the lab reopens.

We hope to make similar schedules for the Mele fireplace room and the library conference room available soon.

SUNYIT Catalog Restored

The SUNYIT Catalog is now working. Thank you again for your patience.

SUNYIT Library Affected by Snowstorm

The SUNYIT Catalog and SFX feature in our databases are temporarily down due to the power outtages in Buffalo. Our servers are located on the Buffalo State campus and are affected by the heavy snowstorm in the Buffalo area. We received notice that the SLN servers have been affected as well. When the power and services are restored, the Catalog and SFX will be functional once more. Thank you for your patience.

New Computers in the Library

There are new computers in the library. The 18 computers in the reference area and the 18 computers in the library classroom/lab were upgraded over the summer to machines with 3 ghz pentium processors with 1 gb memory. These computers have DVD drives that will allow you to create CDs and DVDs; that feature will be enabled soon.

None of these computers have floppy drives! Please use flash memory sticks from now on. There are two USB ports on the front of each computer; these ports are easy to access. There are two portable floppy drives available for borrowing from the Circulation Desk on the first floor. These drives connect to the computer via the USB port.
